Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection – Complete tutorial with Images

Remote Desktop Connection allows you to connect another computer remotely and to interact with that computer  in the same manner as you are sitting in front of the computer. Using Windows 7 remote Desktop Connection, you can use remote printer to print, solving computer problem, access to important files, software and other tasks also.

In today’s tutorial, I will show you complete process to configure and connect windows 7 computer remotely with images.

Important Note : Windows 7 remote Desktop Connection is only available in Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate editions. Others windows 7 editions does not support remote desktop connection.

Resources, I used to make this tutorials are :

1. Windows 7 Ultimate Editions

2. Windows Server 2003

3. 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch. Shown in below picture

Lets’ start the Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection Process :

1. Login to your windows 7 Computer.

2. Click on Start and open Control Panel. Shown in below picture

3. Control Panel Page will open. Click on System. shown in below picture

4. Click on Advanced system settings. Shown in below picture

5. System properties page will open. Navigate to Remote. Shown in below picture

6. Select “Allow connection from computers running any version of Remote Desktop” and “Select Users” in Remote Desktop. Shown in below picture

7. From Remote Desktop Users, click on Add. Shown in below picture

8. Type the user name for Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection and click OK. Shown in below picture

9. Click OK.

10. Again click Apply and OK.

Done. Windows 7 remote desktop connection for user selection & enable is complete.

Now it’s time to connect to Windows 7 computer from Windows Server 2003. ( Note : you can use any other computer to connect windows 7 computer remotely.)

If you want to do Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection from windows server 2003 computer, follow this steps.

11. Login to Windows Server 2003 Computer.

12. Click on Start and go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications >Remote Desktop Connection. Shown in below picture

13. Type IP Address of Windows 7 Computer and click on Connect. Shown in below picture ( Don’t know IP Address. Check this article on How to find IP Address )

14. Computer will connect to windows 7 computer. Click on Other User. Shown in below picture

15. Type the User Name and Password. Press Enter. Shown in below picture

16. If someone is login to windows 7 computer, he/she will get a message. Shown in below picture

17. If he/she click on OK, Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection will establish. Otherwise remote desktop connection will be disconnected within 30 seconds.
