Memory or RAM (Random Access Memory ) is a computer hardware components. It helps to run different kinds of big programs and software in computer. The big memory you have in your computer, you can run big programs smoothly. But the question is, How big memory is usable in computer ?

32 Bit Computer Processor: In 32 bit computer processor, you can use maximum 4 GB Computer Memory. If you put more then 4 GB Memory in 32 bit processor supportable computer, it will remain unused. But in windows 7 starter it limits to maximum 2 GB.

64 bit Computer Processor: You can use minimum 192 GB Memory in 64 bit processor supportable computer. If you are a windows 7 user, you can use maximum 8 gb memory in Home Basic Operating System.

Answer : Check your computer operating system. If you have installed 32 bit operating system instead of 64 bit operating system then you will not able to utilize 64 bit processor features.

  1. I have seen people with 4GB ram using x64bit instead of x86 even though like you said here that windows7 x86 supports upto 4GBs of RAM. Then what’s the catch there? Does using x64 gives any kind of performance boost?
